1390 The Fan Sports News


The Twins lost 3-2 in the first game of the 4-game series at Oakland against the Athletics Thursday night.  Oakland's Kurt Suzuki doubled in the go-ahead run in the 9th inning off Jesse Crain to win the game.  Craig Breslow took the loss and drops to 0-2.  Justin Morneau went 1-3 with an RBI and Nick Punto added an RBI single.  Nick Blackburn started the game and threw 5 2/3 innings with 6 hits and 2 earned runs allowed but didn't figure in the final decision.  The Twins fall to 75-59 and are 1 1/2 games back of the White Sox for first place in the American League Central.  Chicago didn't play Thursday.  The Twins play the 2nd game of the 4-game series at Oakland tonight at 9:05, pregame on WJON at 8:35.  Righthander Kevin Slowey (10-8) gets the start on the mound for the Twins and lefthander Dan Meyer (0-2) toes the rubber for the A's.
