The Twins defeated Seattle 11-8 Sunday afternoon to complete a 3-game sweep of the Mariners.
Minnesota went out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and held off the Mariners. Seattle scored all 8 of their runs between the 6th and 8th innings. Seattle loaded the bases in the 9th inning before Joe Nathan recorded the final out. Glen Perkins threw the first 6 innings with 8 hits and 4 earned runs allowed to get the win and improve to 10-3. Joe Nathan recorded the final 4 outs to get his 33rd save. Jason Kubel went 4-4 with 4 runs scored and 2 RBIs, Justin Morneau went 2-3 with a homerun and 2 RBIs and Denard Span was 3-5 with a run scored and 1 RBI. The Twins are 70-53 and are tied with the White Sox for first place in the American League Central. Minnesota will host Oakland to begin a 3-game series at the Metrodome tonight at 7:10, pregame on WJON at 6:40. Righthander Nick Blackburn (9-6) gets the start on the mound for the Twins and righthander Justin Duchsherer (10-8) toes the rubber for the Athletics.
